An MP3 cutter without the upload

A quick trim should be a quick task. SpeechText.AI keeps the editing on your device, so you don't have to hand over a recording just to shorten it.

The audio stays with you

Your recording is processed in the browser, not uploaded to a server for cutting. That's a meaningful difference for personal voice notes, interviews and client conversations.

No account. No cutting fee.

Open the tool and get to work. You don't need a subscription or an account to save a trimmed clip. Come back whenever you need another cut.

Skip the upload wait

There's no audio transfer to finish before editing begins. Processing speed depends on your device and recording, not on an upload queue.

Familiar audio formats

Work with MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC and FLAC files supported by your browser. Check the format guide for the details that matter before exporting.

You choose what stays

Keep one answer, shorten a song or trim silence from the beginning and end. This is a focused audio trimmer, not a full production suite to learn first.

No editor to install

Use the tool in your browser and save the result as a separate clip. Keep your source file for future edits, without adding another desktop app to your workflow.

From recording to excerpt

How to trim audio online

Keep the useful part. Leave the rest out.

  1. Open your audio file

Choose a recording from your device in the editor above. The cutter processes the audio in your browser, without uploading it for editing.

  2. Choose what stays

Set the start and end of the section you want to keep. Leave a little room around spoken words so your clip does not start or finish mid-syllable.

  3. Save and listen

Save the trimmed clip to your device, then listen to both ends. Keep the original recording if you need another excerpt or a different cut.

Make the recording useful

Small cuts. Useful work.

Just need one answer from an hour-long interview? Or the chorus, not the whole song? Save the excerpt without turning a simple task into a production project.

Interviews & transcription

Cut a recording to the passage you need before sending it to a transcription workflow. Keep the original for context, and avoid ending a clip halfway through an answer.

Podcasts & spoken clips

Isolate a guest's quote, remove a long opening pause or save an excerpt for review. Leave a brief breath before the first word; a little space sounds more natural than a hard start.

Music & ringtones

Use the music cutter to keep a hook, shorten a practice track or prepare a ringtone from audio you have permission to use. Your phone's ringtone format and installation requirements still apply.

Voice notes & learning

Turn a long voice memo into the relevant message. For language practice, save one phrase with a little surrounding context so you hear the pronunciation and the way it fits the sentence.

Formats & sound quality

MP3 and other supported audio formats

The extension is only part of the story. Your browser also needs to read the audio encoding inside the file. These are the main formats to know before you cut audio online.

Common audio input formats and editing notes. Browser and codec support apply.
Input format What to know before trimming
MP3 Common for music, podcasts and compact clips. MP3 uses lossy compression, so repeated re-encoding discards more audio information.
WAV Often used for recordings and editing hand-offs. PCM WAV stores uncompressed audio, which takes more space than a compressed file of the same length.
M4A / AAC Common in phone recordings. M4A is a container, not a single audio codec; the encoding inside it determines compatibility.
FLAC A lossless format used for music and archives. Opening a FLAC file depends on decoding support. A lossy export does not preserve its lossless status.

Input and output are different. A format the editor opens is not necessarily a format it offers for download. Check the saved file before moving it to another app.

A clear privacy boundary

What "local processing" actually means

SpeechText.AI's audio cutter processes the recording in your browser. The audio is not uploaded to a server for trimming, so the cutting step does not create a cloud copy of your recording.

The page still downloads code, fonts and analytics resources. Local audio processing does not mean every website request stays on your device. Load the editor first, keep the tab open while you work, and save your result before leaving.

Local processing is a privacy measure, not a compliance certificate. GDPR rules still apply where relevant, including your legal basis for recording and the way you store or share the clip.

Turn your audio clip into a transcript

Need the words, too? Use SpeechText.AI's separate AI transcription service for an interview, meeting excerpt or podcast quote. Start with the clip you need, not a full recording you don't.

Audio cutting stays free. Transcription has its own trial and paid plans and requires a separate file upload. Nothing is sent to transcription automatically.

Audio cutter questions, answered

Formats, privacy, quality and the fixes to try when a recording won't cooperate.

How do I trim an MP3 file online?

Open your MP3 in the cutter, choose the start and end of the section you want to keep, then save the trimmed clip. Listen to the result and keep your original file in case you need a different cut.

Is this audio cutter really free?

Yes. Audio cutting is free, with no account or subscription required. SpeechText.AI's AI transcription service is separate and has its own plans.

Is this audio trimmer safe for private recordings?

The cutter processes audio in your browser instead of uploading it for editing. The webpage still loads resources and analytics. Use a trusted device, follow your organization's recording rules, and share the downloaded clip only with the right people.

Can I trim WAV, M4A, AAC and FLAC files?

These are among the supported input formats, along with MP3. Compatibility depends on your browser and the file's audio encoding. Input support does not mean that every format is also offered for download. Check the saved clip's format before using it in another app.

Does trimming audio affect its quality?

Quality depends on the source and the export encoding. Re-encoding an MP3 or AAC file discards some audio information. A WAV export does not restore detail already missing from the source. Keep the original, avoid repeated conversions and listen to the saved clip before publishing.

Can I split an MP3 or join several clips?

To make several excerpts, open the original and save each selected range as a separate clip. For combining recordings, use our separate Audio Joiner. Trimming a range and joining multiple files are different tasks.

Can I trim audio on a phone or work with large files?

Use a current browser that supports your file's encoding. Long recordings need more memory after decoding, especially on phones. If the editor slows down or an export fails, close other tabs and try a shorter recording or a desktop browser.

Is this an AI audio cutter?

No. This is a manual audio cutter: you choose the section to keep. It does not automatically remove silence, separate vocals or transcribe speech. For speech-to-text, explore SpeechText.AI's separate AI transcription service.

Why won't my audio file open or download?

First, check that the source recording plays on your device. Then update your browser, check free storage and try again with fewer tabs open. If the encoding is unsupported, convert a copy to MP3 or PCM WAV. Changing a filename extension does not convert the audio.
