Free online SGMCA player and converter
Open Stenograph SGMCA court-recording files in your browser. Extract the embedded OGG stream, review the recording with speed control, bookmarks and A–B loops, then export OGG, WAV or MP3 without uploading the source file.
- Runs in your browser
- Up to 8-channel SGMCA
- 0.5×–2× speed
Drop an SGMCA file
The first 8 KB is inspected locally for the embedded OGG stream.
From SGMCA to browser audio in three local steps
The web tool follows the same basic idea as the published open-source SGMCA workflow: locate the embedded OGG stream, use it for playback, and only decode it again when an export actually needs PCM samples.
Inspect the file
The player checks the file signature locally. Supported SGMCA files contain an OGG stream beginning within the first 8 KB.
Play and review
The embedded OGG is exposed to the browser audio engine. Speed, seeking, channel isolation, bookmarks and A–B loops stay on the device.
Export
OGG can be extracted without re-encoding. WAV and MP3 are generated locally from the decoded audio.
Need a transcript from the SGMCA recording?
Use this page to check the recording first, then move to SpeechText.AI's transcription workflow when you need searchable text from a deposition, hearing or other court recording.
Transcription is a separate upload-based service. Review the current processing terms before submitting confidential audio.
- Check the source
Confirm that the recording opens, the channels are present and any difficult passages can be reviewed.
- Send for transcription
Open the SGMCA transcription workflow when you need a draft transcript.
- Review the result
Check names, numbers, timestamps and legal terminology against the source audio before final use.
SGMCA player questions
Format behavior, browser playback, channels and conversion.
What is an SGMCA file?
SGMCA is Stenograph's Direct Audio file type used by Case CATalyst. Stenograph describes Direct Audio as a multi-channel recording workflow, including support for up to eight channels in CATalyst.
Does this upload my recording?
No. The file is read by the browser and the OGG stream is extracted locally. The page does not send the recording to a SpeechText.AI server for playback or conversion.
Why does the player mention OGG?
The published DepoAudio SGMCA implementation describes supported files as having an OGG stream inside the first 8 KB, with leading application data before that stream. This player follows that compatibility model. It is reverse-engineered behavior, not an official vendor specification.
What does Download OGG do?
It removes the leading SGMCA application data and saves the embedded OGG stream. The audio itself is not re-encoded.
Can I preserve all channels in WAV?
Yes, when the browser decoder exposes the embedded recording as a multi-channel AudioBuffer. The WAV option can keep the decoded channel layout, or you can export a mono mix or a selected channel.
Can I use MP3 for a multi-channel SGMCA?
MP3 export is offered as a compatibility format, so the exporter uses mono or a selected source channel rather than attempting to preserve an arbitrary multi-channel layout. For archival or legal review, keep the original SGMCA and prefer OGG or multi-channel WAV.
What if my SGMCA does not contain OggS in the first 8 KB?
This build reports the file as an unsupported or variant SGMCA rather than guessing. The published compatibility guide explicitly warns that variants exist and that the byte evidence matters more than the extension.
File will not play? Check these first.
1. Confirm the source
Make sure the SGMCA file was copied completely from the original CATalyst workflow. The parser only accepts a validated OGG signature.
2. Try another browser
Browser audio codec support varies. Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox builds are the best starting point for this local tool.
3. Keep the original
Conversion is for a working copy. Do not delete the original court recording after exporting OGG, WAV or MP3.
